A Utah Man?

The Utah fight song is Utah man? Although the origins of Utah Man? are unclear, the general consensus is that the lyrics were written in 1904 by the football team and its coach, Harvey Holmes. While their words were original, the music was not. The tune is Solomon Levi, an old burlesque song. The lyrics are as follows:

1. I am a Utah Man?, sir, and I live across the green,
Our gang it is the jolliest that you have ever seen.
Our coeds? are the fairest and each one's a shining star,
Our yell, you'll hear it ringing through the mountains near and far! (Chorus)
2. And when we prom the avenue, all lined up in a row,
And arm in arm and step in time as down the street we go.
No matter if a freshman green, or in a senior's gown,
The people all admit we are the warmest gang in town. (Chorus)
3. We may not live forever on this jolly good old sphere,
But while we do we'll live a life of merriment and cheer,
And when our college days are o'er and night is drawing nigh,
With parting breath we'll sing that song:
"A Utah Man? Am I". (Chorus)
Chorus
Who am I, sir,
A Utah Man? am I!
A Utah Man?, sir,
Will be 'til I die.
Ki-yi!
We're up to snuff, we never bluff, we're game for any fuss.
No other gang of college men? dare meet us in a muss.
So fill your lungs and sing it out and shout it to the sky,
We'll fight for dear old crimson for a Utah Man? am I!
Go Utes!

Dang Utes!! My wife's grandfather was a WWII hero and attended Utah (BA and JD). The name of his plane was Utah Man. He said that he would attend the games against BYU and would be secretly pulling for BYU. He bleeds blue.

Is this because BYU can't beat them on the field any more? "Whine and pout, the Cougars are out (of the closet)!"

Where do you find these pictures? I love them! I pass them on to all my U "friends." Are they really my friends if they went to the U?

GB,

We are so glad we could be there with you on your special night. Savor your victory, but be wary, for the path of glory leads only to the grave.

Scott, I JUST finished a very lengthy literature midterm and the poem you just quoted was a large part of it. When I read your comment I thought, "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard by Thomas Gray!" like I was still taking the test or something. It was a strange experience.
