Amanda and Hailey

Here Amanda thinks she is about to enjoy some fairy blessings from Hailey in front of the camera. Amanda still hasn't learned that Hailey is mean. Hailey has a secret plan to make Amanda bleed while pretending to be an innocent fairy and/or child. At the precise moment this picture was taken Hailey was thinking, "softly, softly, not yet, wait for the right moment, this is really going to make her scream..."Now Hailey is hitting Amanda on the head really hard with her wand. Glitter is being embedded into Amanda's scalp. Amanda is realizing that once again she has been tricked and that Hailey is really a sadistic bully. Now Amanda is thinking, "How could someone so cute be so dang mean? I can't believe I let you wave a stick around my head AGAIN." Hailey is thinking, "I can't believe you still let me wave sticks around your head."
Now Mandy is thinking, "Making up? Ha! Her neck is going to be sore tomorrow!"

Rupert Rockford

Today I tried to save a turtle that was stuck on the patio outside of the law school. The turtle, which Bryan and I named "Rupert Rockford," tried to pee on me. A lot. The turtle was about 7" long and I'd estimate about 2 & 1/2 cups of urine SPRAYED OUT in an impressive display of his "liquid defense system." So, I'm kind of upset about Rupert Rockford hating me so bad. Maybe I'll feel better after I dry off.

More Ovaltine, Please!

Amanda: (Lays her doll on Janel) Mommy, feed my baby. Feed my baby milk from your body.

Janel: You mean "nurse" your baby. Well I can't nurse your baby because she isn't mine. You have to feed your own babies. (Gives the baby back to Amanda.)

Amanda: (Pulls her shirt up and tenderly cradles the doll close to her body. Suddenly she pulls her shirt down.) No, her not like chocolate milk.

The Honest Truth

Amanda: Why do Mommy and Daddy drink the blue milk and kids drink the red milk?

Janel: Kids drink the milk with the red cap so they can grow up to be really big.

Amanda: Bryan didn't drink the red milk because he not grow! But Daddy did cause he grow taller and taller and really tall!

David: Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. I can't wait to tell that to Bryan!

The Great Waco Flood

These are photographs of the street in front of our duplex in Waco. The one above was taken on Mother's Day after about 40 minutes of hard rain. The one below was taken the next morning at about 8am. Despite witnessing several terrific thunderstorms in my day (quite a few in Arizona during the summer, and several in the mountains of California) I have NEVER seen anything quite like the last two storms we've had here in Waco, TX. Awesome. We're lucky that it didn't rain more than an hour because the river going down our street had risen over the curb and was inching towards the house. Compare the dead spot in our front lawn in the photographs to see how far the water had risen above the curb.

Fact or Fiction? Test Your Legal Knowledge

In Bain v. Gillespie, 357 N.W.2d 47 (Iowa App. 1984), Jim Bain, a Big Ten Conference basketball referee, made a controversial call late in the Big Ten Conference basketball championship game between the University of Iowa and Purdue University that allowed a Purdue player to make a free throw that gave Purdue a last-minute victory. Some fans of the University of Iowa team blamed Bain for their team’s loss, claiming that the foul was clearly in error. John and Karen Gillespie operated a novelty store in Iowa City specializing in University of Iowa sporting goods and souvenirs. The store was known as Hawkeye John’s Trading Post and had no association with the University of Iowa or its sports program.

A few days after the controversial game, the Gillespie’s sold t-shirts showing a man with a rope around his neck with the caption, “Jim Bain Fan Club.” Bain filed suit against the Gillespies for monetary damages as well as for a court order prohibiting the Gillespie’s from selling t-shirts with Bain’s likeness. The Gillespies countersued, alleging that Bain’s conduct in officiating the game was below the standard of competence required of a professional referee.

The Gillespie's were successful in their countersuit and Bain was found to have committed referee malpractice.

TRUE OR FALSE?

The answer is FALSE.

The Weather: Bananas

Janel, looking much too excited about our carport being destroyed. I guess this just reflects her propensity for violence.

A piece of our carport wrapped around a baby tree.

I found pieces of my landlord's house deep in Klingon Territory. We call the old-folks home across the street "Klingon Territory." Mostly because their arthritis prevents them from wiping very well.

I was tempted to leave this sheet of metal in Klingon Territory because it is surrounded by mud; however, I didn't want any of our technology to fall into the wrong hands.
